Smithsonian Arts & Industries Building Exterior Renovation
EGI was the prime contractor of this project for the complete renovation and rehabilitation of the exterior of the historic Arts & Industries Building. Scope included scaffolding, lead paint abatement, cleaning, re-pointing, masonry, stonework, granite work. Important issues included landscape protection, public overhead protection and safety at this heavily visited public space located at National Mall.
Rehabilitation of the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial "Iwo Jima Memorial"
As a subcontractor, EGI provided consulting services on this project to rehabilitate the entire Iwo Jima Memorial grounds. The project required that the area surrounding the Memorial be surfaced with a material to match the black sands present on the beaches of Iwo Jima, Japan. EGI collaborated with the General Contractor and Owner to value engineer a specialty black aggregate concrete that both matched the Iwo Jima sands and provided a substantial cost savings to the National Park Service.
In 2006, this project received awards from the Associated General Contractors of America and the International Concrete Repair Institute.
National Battleground Historic Lodge and Rostrum Restoration
EGI performed an historic restoration to the Lodge and Rostrum at the National Battleground Cemetery located in Washington, DC near the location of the Battle of Fort Stevens. The marble rostrum, originally built shortly after the battle in 1864, was badly in need of restoration. EGI performed plaster ceiling and concrete foundation replacement and delicately removed rust stains and other mars from the marble. Today, this structure is used to perform annual Memorial Day services.

EGI was the prime contractor on this design/bid/build and design/build construction project for the complete renovation and historic restoration of Courtroom 203 and the audio/visual systems in Courtroom 201. This fast-track project was performed for the GSA and took place in an occupied courthouse and office building. EGI effectively managed many challenging conditions associated with this project. All work in this highly secure facility was closely monitored, and all onsite personnel required security clearances.
